Training of Trainers (ToT) on Digital Security

Workshop Introduction

This training workshop serves as a technical and knowledge-sharing space designed for young tech practitioners (developers, designers, systems engineers, and data researchers) operating at the intersection of technology, human rights, independent journalism, and activism, with a specific focus on the context of war and aggression in Lebanon and the South.

Through this workshop, we aim to create a collaborative learning space that strengthens participants’ capacity to train others and respond to our community’s needs for digital security and resilience. It supports Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS), builds critical technical capabilities to resist digital targeting and surveillance, and accumulates participants’ experience to develop ideas that serve digital freedoms.

Note: By “tech practitioner/techie,” we refer to individuals who actively follow and engage with technology topics, regardless of formal professional status or academic degree.

Vision and Approach: Accumulating Knowledge, Not Reinventing the Wheel

• Building on Field Experience: This training does not aim to offer theoretical lectures but rather to build on what tech practitioners have achieved in the field and digitally, while understanding current digital transformations.
• A Local & Field-Experienced Training Team: The workshop is led by active trainers who are in direct contact with Arab tech practitioners and operate at the intersection of technology, activism, media, and journalism.
• Creating a Sustainable Space: We aim to make this training a space for generating knowledge that grows organically and opens new horizons and opportunities for a new generation of Arab tech practitioners.

Time and Location

• Location (Saida): The gateway geographically separating Lebanon from the direct warfront, serving as an incubator for a diverse social fabric that unites shared concerns (Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian).
• Venue: Sikka - Saida.
• Dates: The training extends over a full month to provide sufficient time for combining technical capacity building with direct application, taking place on October 10, October 17, October 24, October 29 (to join the last day with the journalist), and .
• Additional Opportunity & Support: The training includes the opportunity to participate in the Bread&Net Conference in Beirut (October 14–16, 2026). Transportation costs are covered.
