Digital Security for Journalists

Introduction

This specialized training workshop serves as a knowledge and technical space designed for 15 journalists covering the war in Lebanon, particularly in South Lebanon. Its primary goal is to enhance their digital protection and strengthen their technical capabilities to document ongoing attacks safely.

The workshop specifically targets young journalists working independently (Freelancers) and/or for independent platforms—far from the umbrellas and resources of mainstream media outlets—to equip them with security tools that resist digital targeting.

Note: By "journalist," we refer to anyone working in the journalism and media field, regardless of formal professional status or academic degree.

Vision and Approach: Accumulating Knowledge, Not Reinventing the Wheel

• Building on Field Experience: This training does not aim to offer theoretical lectures but rather to build on what journalists have achieved in the field and digitally, while understanding current digital transformations.
• A Local & Field-Experienced Training Team: The workshop is led by active trainers in Lebanon operating at the intersection of journalism and technology.
• Creating a Sustainable Space: We aim to make this training a space for generating knowledge that grows organically and opens new horizons and opportunities for a new generation of journalists. Additionally, the training aims to provide participants with analytical tools to help develop their capacity to cover tech-related topics.

Time and Location

• Location (Saida): The gateway separating Lebanon's geography from the direct war front, embodying a diverse social fabric that hosts intersecting identities and shared concerns.
• Venue: Sikka - Saida.
• Dates: The training extends over a full month to provide sufficient time for combining technical capacity building with direct application, taking place on October 8, October 22, October 29, and November 5.
• Additional Opportunity & Support: The training includes the opportunity to participate in the Bread&Net Conference in Beirut (October 14–16, 2026). 
• Transportation costs are covered.
