Since starting Sikka as a project in 2019, one of our main objectives was to sustain our economy in Lebanon narrowing to Saida starting with Sikka as a pilot project.
After the economic study and observation, we concluded may problems in our economic system. We took two of the major problems that Sikka’s capacity can handle. First was introducing the cooperative system as a new economic system that can challenge the capitalism and banking system. Secondly, the export and import percentage in Lebanon is 20 to 80 in latest studies in 2019(unofficial) and this gap grow more with the crisis.
Also looking on Sikka’s team capacity and observing Saida’s needs and assets (land and weather) we concluded that agriculture can be the starting point to produce the main row materials to introduce later in any manufacturing.
Specifically, Urban Agriculture that can:
- Lessen the use of exported material.
- Increase the chance to create a circular economy in our cycle of production.
- Helps in maintaining food security and safety.
